Thousands of Job Seekers Attend Starmall EDSA Shaw Job Fair

Thousands of job seekers made their way to Starmall EDSA Shaw for the Magnus Job Fair last July 11-12.

The 2-day job fair was made possible through the partnership between Magnus Eventus Inc., and MoreThanJobs.com.ph.

Job seekers had a field day checking out and applying to hundreds of job postings from over 40 top companies.

Magnus Eventus Inc., and MoreThanJobs.com.ph is expected to mount more job fairs in other cities in Metro Manila soon.  Keep an eye out for more job fair schedules happening near you soon.

QC Polytechnic University Career Seminar 2019

The students of QC Polytechnic University had the opportunity to improve their chances of getting HIRED and finding their dream career through a series of topics facilitated by resource speaker, Miss Danisa Cayetano.

The talk was part of QC Polytechnic University’s Career Seminar 2019 organized by the PLACEMENT INDUSTRIAL COORDINATING OFFICE last March 12 at the QC Polytechnic Campus.

Close to 1500 graduating students of the university attended the event.  Miss Danisa Cayetano imparted her knowledge and talked about topics such as:

  • Common Interview Questions and Best Answers for Fresh Grads
  • Interview Etiquette
  • Self Presentation

Students showed their eagerness and participation by asking job interview related questions, tips, and etc.  The energy during the event was palpable and it was amazing to see students show their excitement and interest in the topic.

Why Should We Hire You? – Best Answers for Fresh Graduates

This question may sound daunting but it actually works in your favor. This question provides you with a clear opportunity to sell yourself! Use this chance to talk about your strengths and qualities and how those make you an excellent candidate. 

Confidence is important when answering this question. Just because you don’t have any work experience doesn’t mean you’re not the best person for the job. Remember that you have character traits that others don’t have and those could be perfect for the role you’re applying for. If not, you still have skills you may have learned from school and that could be extremely helpful for this role.

 Tips:

  • Read and Understand the job description, and tailor your responses based on what the role requires. Talk about technical skills or relevant work experience that qualifies you for what the position the company is looking for.
  • Talk about internship and how it has prepared you for the position by teaching you work-related experiences. Talk about what you did and what you have learned in details so the Hiring Officer see what exactly you’re bringing to their company. 
  • Talk about your winning qualities and positive traits and give examples to support them
  • If you have other organizations in school, like student council, basketball team, dance club, etc., mention them. It will showcase your leadership and time management skills

Best Answers:

  • It is stated in your job advertisement that you need someone who has knowledge in Marketing or Advertising. Although I am a fresh graduate, I had an experience working as an intern for one of the top advertising agencies in the Philippines, and my time with them taught me a lot about the latest trends in marketing, social media and consumer research.
  • As a recent graduate of Education course, and completed my practicum in one of the public schools in Quezon City, I have realized that I really wanted to become a teacher. I will do my best to be the best educator that I can be, and will do what it takes to make sure no student falls behind in my class. Also, with my recent education, I will bring fresh and unique teaching approaches that I am looking forward to share with you.
  • I am a quick learner, passionate and always want to be on top. I have proven this by being a Dean’s Lister for three consecutive years, while being a basketball varsity for my university. I always rise to the occasion and thrive under pressure. I will bring this attitude with me to help me not just reach, but exceed my sales targets and help the company excel.

 Worst Answers:

  • The job location is near my place
  • Because I have nothing else to do
  • I need a work ASAP

How to Answer: “Why Are You Leaving Your Current Company?”

In the first of our ongoing interview questions and how to answer them series, we’ll take on the top question on every interviewer’s mind whenever they see an applicant that’s still connected to their present company.

Question: WHY ARE YOU LEAVING YOUR CURRENT COMPANY?

Why interviewers ask this question? It is common to seek for new opportunities while still employed, but doing so could raise red flags and questions on the interviewer’s mind. Are you leaving for a good
reason? Are you leaving voluntarily? It’s best to have a solid answer just in case you encountered this question on your next interview.

The most important thing when they ask “Why you are looking to leave your current job” is to stay positive and never badmouth.

How do you sound positive? Rather than complaining or talking badly about your current situation, say that you’re looking for more of something.

Is your current boss a power tripper or lazy? Say that you’re looking for an environment with more leadership you can learn from.

Dos:

– Sound positive and focus on what you want to gain by making a move
– Show gratitude for your current job
– Sound like you’re ambitious, motivated, and eager to find the next challenge in your career.

Don’ts :

– Badmouth your boss current employer in any way
– Sound like you’re trying to escape a bad situation, or you’re failing or not fitting in at your current job
– Say you’re struggling or failing to perform the work
– Say it’s too difficult or stressful
– Never lie.

Good sample answers:

“I’m looking for more leadership opportunities. I’ve been at my company for three years and have really enjoyed the experience but I feel in order to take the next step in my career, it’d be helpful to join a larger organization and use what I’ve learned in the past to lead more projects. That’s why this
Project Manager role excited me.”

“I have decided to shift from admin to marketing, because marketing is my passion. I love interacting to all kinds of people and I have creative ideas that will surely contribute to the growth of the company. I know that not only will this new career be more natural for me, but I will also enjoy it. If you hire me, you will be able to see the difference I’ll bring within a very short period.”
